Berlin is a fantastic city and one of the top places to visit in Germany any time of year, but if you want to see it at its best we recommend planning a trip in the summer. Though Berlin does have beautiful winters, it’s the summertime when the city really comes alive.

Top Things to Do in Berlin

Regardless of whether you’re in Berlin for a weekend break or you’re visiting as part of a much longer holiday, you’re sure to be impressed with the city. A lot of the key attractions are art or history based, though there is still something for everyone. Some of the top things to do in Berlin include:

• Reichstag: Reichstag is where you’ll find the German Parliament and a great deal of Berlin’s interesting history. Over the years Reichstag has had some interesting events, such as burning down in 1933 and having a modern dome added, and this has made it a fantastic attraction to check out. Whether you’re a fan of history or you just want to see what Berlin has to offer, Reichstag is ideal.
• Brandenburg Gate: Brandenburg Gate is one of Berlin’s most recognisable sites, with impressive columns and statues. Restored in the 18th century, thousands of tourists flock there every year to check it out.
• Museum Island: If you’re a fan of museums, you’ll love Museum Island. The UNESCO Heritage Museum Island is made up of five individual museums, all located along the river. This makes checking out Berlin’s museums extremely easy and straightforward. We’d recommend setting a day aside to see what it’s all about.
• Christmas Markets: If you do decide to visit Berlin in the winter, you’ll be able to check out some of the famous Christmas markets. There are a number of large Christmas markets spread out across Berlin throughout the festive period and it’s a great way to get yourself into the holiday spirit. There’s presents to buy, food to sample and entertainment to see.
